About Master Storytelling
Master Storytelling began as a question. For years, I worked in and alongside the charity sector, watching well‑intentioned campaigns fail, seeing brilliant people burn out, and feeling that something fundamental was missing. We had all the information, all the tools, all the passion—and still, the crises deepened.
I started asking: what if the problem isn’t our messages, but the hidden code beneath them?
That question became a decade of research, drawing on neuroscience, philosophy, motivation science, and the wisdom traditions. It led to the VMP triad, Integral Motivation Theory, the Law of Value and Axiological Primitivism. And it gave shape to Master Storytelling—a framework for understanding and recalibrating the deep stories that shape our lives.
Today, Master Storytelling is growing. What began as a personal inquiry has become a community of practitioners, a training programme, a podcast, and a growing library of resources. I’m grateful to everyone who has joined the journey so far.

Master Storytelling is for anyone who has felt the frustration of doing everything right — and still watching the change they’re working for remain stubbornly out of reach.
It is for the climate campaigner who knows the data is overwhelming but can’t understand why it isn’t moving people. The organisational leader who has tried every culture change initiative and still finds the same dynamics reasserting themselves. The educator who senses that something essential is being lost in how we teach, but can’t quite name what. The policymaker who knows that legislation alone will never be enough.

The Master Storytelling journey: Key milestones
The work that became Master Storytelling began in 2017. It was not a straightforward path. We were trying to do something no one had done before: build a framework that could see beneath the stories we tell, into the hidden code of Value, Motivation, and Purpose that shapes all human meaning.
For years, the pieces were scattered—insights from neuroscience, threads of philosophy, fragments of wisdom traditions. Pulling them together took time. There were dead ends. There were moments when the whole thing nearly collapsed.
But piece by piece, the framework cohered. The VMP triad, Integral Motivation Theory, the Law of Value, the practice of the Synaxis—they didn’t arrive all at once. They emerged through years of research, writing, and refining.
Now, for the first time, we have a coherent and robust framework. A way of seeing the hidden code. A set of practices for recalibrating it. And a community of people ready to put it to work.
This is not the end of the journey. It’s the beginning. But it is a beginning built on a foundation that can hold.
The work is essential. The metacrisis will not be solved by better information or smarter campaigns. It will be solved by people who can see the code—and who have the courage to change it.
That is what Master Storytelling is for. And that is why we are here now.

Kieran has spent over two decades working alongside the charity sector, observing why well‑intentioned efforts so often fall short. He holds that the root of the metacrisis is a failure of meaning, not a failure of information—and that transforming culture requires working at the level of the hidden code beneath it.
He is the creator of the VMP triad, Integral Motivation Theory, and the Law of Value. He lives in Wales, UK, where he writes, facilitates, and continues to develop the Master Storytelling framework.
